Programs
Robert A. Pascal Youth and Family Services, Inc. (RAPYFS), a nonprofit 501 (c)(3), has provided comprehensive, counseling services for more than 35 years.
Each year, we service approximately 600 families in Anne Arundel County and its surrounding areas. Clients from low-income families who have fewer advantages are given the opportunity to receive mental health and substance-abuse treatment.
We provide individual, family and group counseling to children, adolescents and adults. Our staff is comprised of counselors (master's degree) who address a variety of different issues to many different groups.

Honoring Yourself First
A 12-week, self-empowerment program for women which aims to reduce anxiety and/or depression while promoting improved emotional and physical well-being. Participants will examine the present and learn to build skills for future goals. Educational concepts include new thought processes and behaviors, stress-reduction techniques and strengthening of relationship, especially with one's children.
The group meets for 90 minutes once a week for a total of 12 weeks. The group is open to women over 21 years of age. Group formation is based on number of referrals.
Spirit of Anger
A six-week, adult anger-management program open to both men and women ages 18 and over. The group meets for 75 minutes once a week in the evening.
The goals of the program are to teach new skills to enable participants to control anger in provocative situations. Group members will improve communication skills to effectively communicate needs, thoughts, feelings and desires. Identifying stress in present life and its contribution to anger outbursts will encourage participants to make use of stress-reduction techniques and self-care skills.
Individual screenings for the group begin approximately two weeks before the first group meeting. The small group is limited to 10 participants. The group meetings are held at RAPYFS located in Severna Park. Group formation is based on number of referrals. Click here for program flyer.
Cage Your Rage is an eight-week, anger-management program for adolescents. The group is open to both males and females ranging in ages 11-17. The groups meet once a week in the evenings.
The Cage Your Rage anger-management program is an ongoing service provided by RAPYFS. The goals of the program are: to teach new skills that will enable the participants to control their anger in provocative situations; and to increase participants' personal power by learning the necessary skills to effectively communicate their needs and desires.
The program is facilitated through a small group limited to 10 participants (a minimum of four is required for the group to begin). Each session is 75 minutes in length. Registration and individual screenings for the group begin approximately two weeks before the group's scheduled start date. The group program is conducted at RAPYFS in Severna Park. ADOLESCENT-SUBSTANCE AWARENESS GROUP
The adolescent substance-awareness group includes the use of didactic lectures and group activities. It is an open group with the maximum capacity of 12 participants. Each participant must attend 12, one-hour group sessions with a family group meeting once a month on the first Tuesday of the month. Topics include: the medical aspects of mind-mood-altering chemicals, disease concept of addiction, cross-addiction, defense mechanisms, acute abstinence syndrome, post-acute withdrawal, 12-step programs (home group, sponsorship and 12-steps), issues in recovery, triggers and relapse-prevention planning. The family group focuses on techniques in improving family relationships, developing family rules and roles, communication styles and skills, support groups, relapse-warning signs, problem solving and other issues pertaining to the disease of addiction. The participants are also required to attend at least six, 12-step meetings outside of the agency and submit to random drug screens.
The adult DUI/DWI group includes the use of didactic lectures and group activities. It is an open group with the maximum capacity of 24 participants. Each participant must attend six to 13, two-hour group sessions depending on the court requirements. Topics include: learn about the scope of the drinking-driver problem; drinking-driver patterns and characteristics; the pharmacology of substance abuse; the process of addiction to drugs and alcohol; the relationship of substance use to crime, health, family and other social problems; and treatment resources. The participants are also required to attend at least six, 12-step meetings outside of the agency and submit to random drug screens.
COA (CHILDREN OF ADDICTS) GROUP
The overall goal of the COA group is to build strength and to foster resilience among children of addicted parents. It is a closed group that meets for six, one-hour sessions with the maximum capacity of 10 participants. The curriculum was established by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) to provide supportive education for children of addicted parents. The skills being built are social competence, problem solving, coping, autonomy and a sense of purpose and future. Topics include: learning about addiction, feelings, problem solving, treatment, recovery, safe people and coping. Click here for program flyer.
The group empowers adolescent girls by examining the present and building skills for the future. This program was created by Craig Winston and Janice Daley. The overall goals of the group include: achieve a competent, gender-role identification; establish an acceptable body image; develop a positive self-image; develop peer relationships; establish independence through responsible decision making; understand sexuality in today's world; learn to obtain help; find access to resources; and plan for the future.
The group meets for 90 minutes once a week for a total of 13 weeks. The group is open to middle-school-age girls. Group formation is based on number of referrals. Click here for program flyer.
